| Business Issue |
In critical response situations like earthquakes, fire, accidents, epidemics and other emergencies, hospitals must be prepared to handle an influx of patients and the possibility that employees cannot report to work. A major trauma center supporting over two million residents needed to develop response plans to ensure it is prepared to support its constituents. |
| Challenge |
Drills are conducted several times per year but not all employees are able to participate in those exercises. Each employee must know what to expect, what their role is, proper communication and response plans and how to support the mental health needs of affected individuals. |
| Solution |
Planet created an e-learning program that instructs learners in the various types of emergencies that may affect the center, correct procedures to follow in the event of an emergency, what resources are available, how to care for others, care for themselves, prepare their families and how to support special needs populations like the elderly children and physically disabled citizens, non-English speakers.
The program included quiz questions with feedback to ensure that each employee understands how to respond in an emergency and where to go for additional information.
