Compliance Training for Auto Dealerships

The auto dealership industry in the US is heavily regulated for sales, finance and insurance procedures and many other practices. A California attorney reached settlement with the state for his large auto dealership client’s alleged compliance breach. The settlement required the dealership to deliver quality training to a targeted employee audience by a given date.

The attorney partnered with an Oregon company that provides a Dealership Compliance Management System, a web-based automotive software solution designed to bring compliance management tools to dealerships and to deliver and track the required training.

Challenge

Together, the attorney and compliance company needed to deliver 90 minutes of quality online training to the dealers’ employees in a very short period of time. Neither had experience creating effective web-based training though they had a great system in place to track training completion.

Solution

The attorney and compliance company partnered with Planet to develop the web-based training using a streamlined rapid development process. The attorney provided subject matter expertise, and Planet developed a process to gather appropriate information from the attorney, apply strong instructional and visual design strategies and produce the first in a series of collaborations in delivery of high quality trainings for the target industry.

Planet successfully developed the program and a proven structure for delivering future e-learning programs using a common visual and interactive design within the allotted time frame.

Results

The training was delivered a day early and on budget, allowing the dealership client to avoid steep penalties. Both the attorney and compliance company are delighted with how the program represents their expertise in the auto industry. They plan to collaborate with Planet on development of a series of e-learning programs that will increase the value of the compliance system’s offerings.
